SKINCARE SUSTAINABILITY

Eco-friendly skincare handcrafted in the UK

At Thirns, we believe skincare should work in harmony with both your skin and the natural world. Our approach to sustainable skincare is guided by respect for nature, thoughtful formulation, and a commitment to creating products that care for both your skin and the planet.

Every product we create is guided by a simple principle: effective skincare should never come at the expense of the environment. By combining natural, plant-based ingredients with eco-friendly skincare practices, we aim to create products that feel good to use and responsible to choose. From the ingredients we choose to the way each product is made and packaged, sustainability sits at the heart of our process.

Our natural skincare products are handcrafted in small batches in the UK. This slower, more mindful approach supports sustainable skincare production, allowing us to maintain exceptional quality while reducing unnecessary waste and overproduction. By producing only what is needed, we help minimise environmental impact while ensuring each one of our products is as fresh and effective as possible.

Clean, thoughtful ingredients, responsibly sourced

We are committed to selecting high-quality ingredients that respect both people and the planet. Each formulation is enriched with carefully chosen botanical ingredients, essential oils, and hydrolats, valued for their natural skin-supporting properties, and gentle aromatic qualities. Whenever possible, we prioritise ingredients that are certified organic by recognised standards such as Ecocert or COSMOS in each of our natural skincare formulations. These certifications provide transparency, traceability, and reassurance that ingredients are grown and processed according to rigorous environmental and ethical standards.

Our sustainable skincare is entirely plant-based, vegan, and cruelty-free, reflecting our belief that effective skincare can be created without compromising animal welfare. We also avoid palm oil and its derivatives in our formulations, ensuring skincare that is completely palm oil–free. Palm oil production is a leading cause of deforestation and habitat loss in vulnerable ecosystems, and choosing alternatives helps reduce pressure on these precious environments.

By sourcing ingredients responsibly and supporting ethical supply chains, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable and fair cosmetics industry.

Packaging with purpose

Sustainability also extends to the materials we use to package our eco-friendly skincare products. Wherever possible, we choose recyclable or reusable packaging to reduce environmental impact and encourage conscious consumption.

Our botanical skincare formulations are housed in recyclable white glass jars, which offer both environmental and functional benefits. Glass is widely recyclable and durable, allowing containers to be reused or repurposed. The white glass also helps protect the integrity of the product inside by shielding it from light that can cause natural ingredients to degrade over time. This ensures that the botanical oils and extracts used in each of our products remain at their most potent throughout their use, ensuring lasting and visible results.

Natural and sustainable skincare that nurtures skin and nature

For us, sustainable skincare is not just about what we leave out, it is about creating natural products of the highest quality that work in harmony with nature at every step. By combining plant-based ingredients, responsible sourcing, small-batch production, and thoughtful packaging, we strive to create skincare that cares for your skin while respecting the environment.

Explore our handcrafted sustainable skincare products purposefully designed for midlife and mature skin and enjoy skin that feels calmer, stronger, and more radiant.

Eco-friendly and sustainable skincare UK: Frequently asked questions

What is sustainable skincare?

Sustainable skincare focuses on creating products that care for your skin while reducing environmental impact. This includes responsibly sourced ingredients, ethical supply chains, environmentally conscious packaging, and production methods that minimise waste.

At Thirns, sustainability is considered at every stage, from choosing plant-based ingredients and avoiding palm oil to crafting our products in small batches and using recyclable packaging.

What makes skincare eco-friendly?

Eco-friendly skincare considers the environmental impact of a product throughout its lifecycle. This includes responsibly sourced ingredients, sustainable production methods, minimal waste, and packaging that can be recycled or reused. At Thirns, we aim to create eco-friendly skincare by crafting products in small batches, choosing plant-based ingredients, avoiding palm oil, and using recyclable glass packaging wherever possible.

What is vegan skincare?

Vegan skincare refers to products that are made without animal-derived ingredients. This means formulations do not contain ingredients such as beeswax, lanolin, honey, or collagen sourced from animals. Thirns’ sustainable skincare is entirely plant-based and vegan, using botanical oils, essential oils, and hydrolats to support the skin naturally.

What does palm oil–free skincare mean?

Palm oil–free skincare means that neither palm oil nor its many derivatives are used in the formulation of a product. Palm oil is widely used in cosmetics but its production has been linked to deforestation and habitat loss in some regions. By creating palm oil–free skincare, brands like Thirns aim to reduce their contribution to environmental damage and encourage more responsible ingredient sourcing.

Are Thirns products organic?

Wherever possible, we use ingredients that are certified organic under recognised standards such as Ecocert or COSMOS. These certifications ensure that ingredients are grown and processed according to strict environmental and quality standards. While not every ingredient can be certified organic, we prioritise purity, traceability, and responsible sourcing across all our formulations.

How can I make my skincare routine more sustainable?

A more sustainable skincare routine can start with a few simple choices:

  • Choosing products made with responsibly sourced ingredients

  • Supporting brands that use recyclable or reusable packaging

  • Avoiding products containing unsustainable ingredients such as palm oil

  • Using multi-purpose products to reduce waste

  • Recycling or reusing containers where possible

Small, mindful changes can help reduce the environmental footprint of everyday skincare.

Why does Thirns use glass packaging?

We choose white glass jars because they are both sustainable and practical. Glass is widely recyclable and durable, making it a more environmentally responsible packaging option compared with many plastics. White glass also helps protect natural ingredients from light exposure, which can cause botanical oils and extracts to degrade. This helps maintain the quality and effectiveness of each product.

Why are Thirns products made in small batches?

Producing skincare in small batches allows us to maintain careful control over quality while reducing unnecessary waste and overproduction. This approach also ensures that products remain fresh and that the natural ingredients within them perform at their best.

Why is small-batch skincare more sustainable?

Small-batch skincare helps reduce overproduction and unnecessary waste. By making products in smaller quantities, we are able to better manage resources and maintain product freshness. At Thirns, crafting skincare in small batches allows us to focus on quality, reduce excess production, and ensure each product is made with care.

Is natural skincare better for the environment?

Natural skincare can be more environmentally conscious when ingredients are responsibly sourced and formulations avoid harmful or unsustainable materials. By choosing plant-based ingredients, avoiding palm oil, producing in small batches, and using recyclable packaging, we aim to create sustainable skincare that is mindful of both skin health and the natural world.
